Alice Lorraine Lucich

Oct. 24, 1927– Oct. 4, 2012

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 12, for Alice Lorraine Lucich who died Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, after a long illness.

Mrs. Lucich, 84, was born in Grand Forks, N.D. the sixth of eight children of Mattie and William Young. During hard times for the country, and especially in North Dakota, in 1933 Mrs. Lucich’s parents loaded the family into their 1930 Model A Ford and set out for a better life in California.

Mrs. Lucich met her husband of 64 years, Nick Lucich, at Santa Clara High School.

They had a wonderful life together, according to family members. They shared in the farming business, beginning in the Santa Clara Valley, but when development encroached upon the farmland, in 1962 they moved to Patterson where they continued with apricot and cherry farming and packing. Together they raised five children. In later years they enjoyed many trips in their motor home, fishing and traveling. They have been blessed with many friends and a large extended family.

Mrs. Lucich loved sports. She was an excellent tennis player and competed on the Modesto Junior College team when she was in her forties. And she enjoyed many years of playing tennis with Nick.

Mrs. Lucich’s Catholic faith was an important part of her life. She participated in Bible study and the choir at Sacred Heart Church. And for many years she volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.

Mrs. Lucich is survived by her husband Nick and four children and their spouses: Kris and Dave Santos, Nick and Chris Lucich, Pete and Tammy Lucich and Jim and Jane Lucich. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Sacred Heart Church, 529 I St. in Patterson. A luncheon gathering will follow the Mass at Damasco Fine Food & Spirits at the Best Western Plus Villa Del Lago, 2959 Speno Dr., Patterson. (near Rogers Road and Sperry Road Intersection).

Instead of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Mrs. Lucich’s name be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Sacred Heart Church, 529 I. St., Patterson, CA 95363.

Burial will be at a later date with a private ceremony.
