A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 2 for Alma Elizabeth Bettencourt of Vernalis, who died on Sept. 26 at her home with her family by her side.

Mrs. Bettencourt, 89,was born to Walter and Helena DeFraga in Oakland and was raised in San Leandro. She graduated from Alameda High School in January 1942 and attended Business College. She worked for Peterson Tractor Company in San Leandro.

Mrs. Bettencourt married her husband, Edward Bettencourt on Aug. 10, 1952. They moved to Sunnyvale and Mrs. Bettencourt became a Housewife. In 1962 she and Eddie moved to Vernalis. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, sewing, puzzles and taking care of and running errands for her boys.

Mrs. Bettencourt leaves behind by her sons, George and his wife, Carolyn Bettencourt and Henry and his wife, Irene Bettencourt of Patterson; grandchildren, JaNae (Brian) Southerland, Randy (Christina) Bettencourt, Christine (Jarod) Lara, Rebecca Bettencourt, Audrey (Ronnie) Chavez, Katie Bettencourt and Christopher (Tracee) Bettencourt and 8 great grandchildren. Her husband of 58 years, Edward Bettencourt, and her sister Marie DeFraga precedes her in death

A visitation will be observed on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., in Patterson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., in Patterson. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, Patterson. .
