Another mystery corporation is seeking to put a gigantic warehouse and distribution center in west Patterson. This time the development is being called Project XX and it is mammoth.

Project XX is considered one of the largest distribution centers in California and the west at a whopping 1.5 million square feet. It will be located on Rogers Road just past the Villa Del Lago complex on the West Side of the road in the newly approved West Patterson Business Park Expansion area.

It will dwarf the size of the original Project X,

The project passed its first test on Friday, May 2, when the Patterson Planning Commission gave a 5-0 vote of confidence on the project with little deliberation.

“That’s big anywhere,” City Manager Rod Butler said before the meeting.

Chairman Ron West asked if there could be more electric chargers put in place for electric cars, doubling the amount from four to eight in the huge 287 parking space parking lot.

Butler said before the meeting that the architectural standards of the project are high for a big box distribution center.

“The company has high standards outside and inside,” he said. “It will be a LEED Silver Certified Building.”

The LEED Certification for environmental quality comes from the United States Green Building Council and calls for environmentally friendly architectural and building standards called the Leader in Energy and Environmental Design. In short, it means the building will be green friendly.

A silver designation calls for high environmental designs.

According to Forrest Robinson of Atlanta, Ga., one of the developers, the mystery corporation is very environmentally conscious and employee friendly.

“That is very important to (the developers) and the user of the building,” he said, which will include LED lighting inside and out and water conservation measures such as waterless urinals in the men's' restrooms.

The project will also feature a walking/running track around the building, a seating area with a retention basin park and architectural feature like a sculpture on the north end of the building.

“This is a big opportunity for more jobs to Patterson,” Joe Hollowell said on behalf of the developers and who has spoken for the West Patterson Business Park Expansion.

Where are all the R&D , Manuf, and High Tech related businesses the original business park developers were touting? These same people were critical of Tracy's business park saying it was nothing but warehouses. Now it appears Tracy is being emulated.
