Patterson has acquired a youth football championship after the Central Valley Bengals novice team beat the Florin Patriots on Nov. 2, at Florin High in Sacramento in the Save Our Children League Super Bowl.

The Bengals shut out the Panthers in the second half to win the SOCL championship, finishing the season at 10-0 with their 32-6 victory.

"These kids pushed themselves all season, and that's something that you can't teach," said Bengals coach Martell Scroggins. "They wanted to get this (championship). They gelled together like nothing I've seen before."

Trailing 6-0 at the break, Central Valley got a 73-yard kick return for a touchdown from Jaydrian Lawson early in the third quarter. Elijah Lawson made the extra-point conversion, giving the Bengals a 7-6 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

"We work hard at practice and give it 100 percent -- we never quit," Jaydrian Lawson said. "Winning the Super Bowl felt good -- I was happy for my team."

Jordan Larussa had a recovered onside kick, to set up Central Valley's next TD.

Elijah Lawson took a quarterback sweep around the end and sprinted for a 35-yard touchdown to make it 13-6.

A Florin fumble was later recovered by Nicholaus Saucedo, and the Bengals were back in business.

Seth Campos' catch from Elijah Lawson went for 30 yards, and helped set up the CV quarterback's 45-yard touchdown tear. Campos tacked on the extra-point conversion for a 20-6 advantage.

Back-to-back sacks by Central Valley derailed another Florin drive, and the Bengals continued to pile it on.

Jaydrian Lawson's 65-yard scoring gallop, and Elijah Lawson's 7-yard TD burst provided the final margin of victory.

"The players' determination got us to 10-0," Scroggins said. "We have a good group of kids here from Patterson. These kids are the future."

Varsity

The varsity Bengals also won the SOCL Super Bowl on Nov. 2 after they beat the Florin Falcons 35-32.

Christian Fullerton, who carried the pigskin for more than 1,000 yards this season, led the way with four touchdowns for Central Valley.

Robert Beltran added another score for the Bengals.
