The women received Blue Star Flags at the Las Palmas Mobile Estates Clubhouse in honor of their sons and grandsons who are currently serving in the military. The local military men are serving in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Army National Guard.
Janie Quiroba of Patterson, president of the auxiliary, presented Blue Star Flags to Adaline Acosta, April Weaver, Maria Barba, Viviana Hinojosa, Norma Plaugher, Manuela Danforth, Norma Wilson, Eva Magana and Patricia Poot. Maria Rangel, Pandora Armbruster and Shirley Sadiq were not present.
Patterson Mayor Luis Molina, American Legion Auxiliary District representative Elizabeth Estavillo and Mia Brudnicki, Senator Anthony Cannella’s representative, were on hand for speeches and certificate presentations.
The Blue Star Flag, an indoor service banner with a white field and a blue star sewn into a red banner, is displayed in the window of the home of families who have a loved one serving in the armed forces. Each Blue Star represents one family member serving in the military. The banner can have up to five stars on it, honoring five members of a family.
The Elijah B. Hayes American Legion Auxiliary No.168 welcomes members to its meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Las Palmas Mobile Estates Clubhouse, 250 E. Las Palmas Ave.
