Camp Out Homelessness, a 24-hour event on June 7 and 8, raised more than $5,000 for the H.O.S.T. homeless shelter on Fourth and C streets. Fifty participants set up five campsites with 10 tents on the Northmead Elementary School campus as temperatures soared past the century mark.

The money raised will go to the operating costs at H.O.S.T. homeless shelter. It includes utilities, payroll and any other day-to-day expenses that will be incurred when the house officially opens in the fall, according to Justin Danner, H.O.S.T. administrative assistant.
