The trial of Kenneth Earl Williams Sr. on felony child pornography charges has been delayed for a month, because an expert witness for the defense wasn’t able to prepare testimony in time.

The trial was scheduled to start Tuesday, Jan. 22. Williams, a veteran San Jose police officer, is accused of inducing a Scotts Valley High School girl to take nude photos of herself and give them to him.

He was arrested in January 2006. At the time, the girl was on the basketball team coached by Williams’ wife, Yolanda, and he was a volunteer coaching assistant.

Prosecutor Jeff Rosell said the district attorney’s office recently turned over newly obtained evidence to defense attorney Paul Meltzer, and the defense wants an expert to examine the evidence and testify.

The case will be heard by Judge Jeff Almquist in Santa Cruz County Superior Court.
