A section more than 10 feet long fell to the grass on the southern side of the building just before 8 a.m. that day, but no one was hurt.
“It is hounds-tooth Styrofoam held up by adhesive,” said property manager James Cornelison of U.S. Bank property management. “For some reason, it came loose.”
The company is replacing the molding with a new piece that will be glued with adhesive and also pinned to the wall, he said this week.
All of the molding will be pinned down around the building, Cornelison said.
Patterson Chief Building Official Jim Swanson said the piece that fell was estimated to weigh 30 to 50 pounds.
It is a superficial part of the building and not part of the structure, so it was not inspected, he said.
Neither Cornelison nor Swanson could say for sure what caused the molding to loosen and fall.
“I’m just glad no one was walking around there when it happened,” Swanson said.
