Editor:

Many hundreds of Patterson families by now have in their hands the 2014 community event calendar, a project of one of our local Boy Scout troops.

It contains nearly 200 listings of school, church and organization activities scheduled throughout the year. A few were missed, but the majority of Patterson’s events were listed at no charge.

A few of the remaining calendars are still being sold, and hopefully they are helpful in not only planning events, but looking up dates, times and places. I use mine regularly.

Now the Scouts are asking for input. Was the calendar beneficial to you? Did you use it regularly? What improvements could be made?

The Scouts have numerous ideas for its improvement next year, but first need to hear from the public. You must be the judge. And if the project is repeated, please encourage your churches, schools and clubs to plan ahead, setting dates for 2015 events before November of this year.

Some 300 hours was spent gathering the information for the calendar and then selling it in December and January. Several people and organizations assisted with the selling, and we thank them whole-heartedly for their efforts. They allowed us to show a profit. And if you still need a calendar at a discounted price, please call me; I’m in the book.

The next time we meet, bring up the calendar subject. Your comments will be most appreciated.

Ron Swift,

Patterson resident
