Creekside wrestlers shine at Denair tourney

The Creekside Middle School wrestling team shined last weekend at the Central Valley Classic at Denair High.

Eighteen Panthers captured individual medals at the tournament Saturday, Feb. 9.

“These kids stick together and continue to do their best each week,” said Bobby Pierce, the Creekside coach. “They work hard at practice and bring everything they have to the mats.”

Simon Perez (168 pounds), David Valverde (185) and Jacob Vainuku (205) all battled to collect first-place finishes for the Creekside varsity team.

Teammates Michael Boschi (153) and Gabriel Chadwick (185) took home second-place honors, while Cole Matthews (100) and Daniel Valverde (153) each garnered third-place nods.

The junior varsity Panthers were led by first-place medalists Carson Stonebarger (76), Christian Bickel (89) and Christian Morais (100).

Chase Mirelez (70) and Michael Miller (89) each claimed second place. Carter Corso (95), Albert Perez (122) and Ben Garcia (135) all placed third.

In the girls division, Ana Gonzalez took first in the 108-pound weight class, and teammates Emily Green (95) and Mary Tyler (108) each placed third.

“I am proud to coach this amazing group of kids,” Pierce said.

Creekside 66, Denair 34

With pins by Noah Mirelez (95), Boschi (153), Simon Perez (168) and David Valverde (185), the Panthers earned a victory at home over Denair Middle School on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Bickel (89), Camron Fredrickson (116), Alek Read (153) and Vainuku (205) all won decisions for Creekside (4-0).
