Creekside wrestlers start season strong

Creekside Middle School's wrestling team recently earned its first three dual victories of the 2014 season.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, the Creekside Panthers edged host Denair, 48-43.

The Panthers won three matches by pin, three by decision and one by major decision.

Dhalynn Smith (135 pounds), Cameron Fredrickson (142) and Nate Garcia (135, junior varsity) piled on pins for Creekside.

Anthony Barrera (89, JV) earned a major decision, while Carson Stonebarger (83), Ivan Pineda (89) and Noah Mirelez (112) won by decision, giving the Panthers a third-straight victory to start the campaign.

Creekside's wrestlers also made a statement in their second dual triumph of the season, defeating Livingston, 55-42 on Feb. 11.

The Panthers won six matches by pin, three by decision and two by major decision.

Pins by Michael Miller (100), Mirelez (112), Smith (135), David Valverde (185), Kevin Hernandez (122, JV) and Garcia (135, JV) kept the momentum in favor of Creekside.

Pineda (89) and Brian Lopez (128, JV) won by major decision, and Stonebarger (83), Francisco Duran (128) and Aurora Vela (153) earned decisions, giving the Panthers a second-straight victory to start the year.

The season-opener was also a success for Creekside, which defeated Waterford, 66-36, in the team's first home dual Feb. 5.

Mirelez (108), Garcia (135), Fredrickson (142) and Miller (103, JV) picked up pins for the home team. Oscar Rosas (89), Pineda (95), Duran (116) and Lopez (135, JV) won major decisions.

Central Valley Classic

Three varsity Panthers captured individual medals at the Central Valley Classic Saturday, Feb. 15 at Delhi High School.

Valverde (205) battled to collect a first-place finish for Creekside. Rosas (89) took home second-place honors, while Mirelez garnered a third-place medal.

The JV Panthers were led by first-place medalists Barrera (89) and Duran (128). Garcia (128) claimed second place. Andrew Silva (100), Moses Ruelas (103), Ricky Martinez (112), Angel Halcon (122) and Vela all placed third.

Vela also earned second-place honors in the girls 142-pound class.
