DETAILS: Local teenagers, ages 13 to 18, are invited to the library’s monthly Teen Game Night. Participants can practice tactics and teamwork while playing Wii, board and card games. A button-making craft will be offered, and books for young adults will be on display and available for checkout.

Fiesta meeting set

DETAILS: The Patterson Apricot Fiesta monthly meeting will include planning for the event May 31 and June 1 and 2. Community members who wish to volunteer to help with the fiesta are welcome to attend.
Help offered to former employees

DETAILS: Alliance Worknet and the Central Valley Opportunity Center are offering individuals who were laid off at Patterson Vegetable Company earlier this year a presentation of resources available to all dislocated workers detailing a variety of services available to them. This includes search assistance and vocational training which are being offered free of charge to help the affected workers in their re-employment efforts. Some examples of the types of vocational training offered are: welding, Class A truck driving license, general business occupations, cooking, cashier and retail sales.

Youth talent show

DETAILS: The Teen Center Youth Action Commission and the Patterson High School Drama Club are hosting “Patterson’s Got Talent” for young people in the city. Tickets can be bought in advance from Center for Human Services-Patterson Teen Center, 1040 W. Las Palmas Ave.; from Tori Scoles at Patterson High School; or from any YAC member.
COST: $2 per person in advance, $3 at the door
Farm water film screening
WHEN: 7 p.m.
WHERE: State Theater, 1307 J St., in Modesto
DETAILS: The screening of a documentary by Juan Carlos Oseguera, a graduate of Orestimba High School in Newman, will be will be followed by a panel discussion. The film, “The Fight for Water: A Farm Worker Struggle,” follows the 2009 march of farm workers across the Central Valley to demand that irrigation water restrictions be overturned.

Eighth-grade day at Catholic High School

DETAILS: Eighth-grade students are invited to a day of activities at Central Catholic High School in Modesto. The teenagers can visit classrooms, participate in a rally, share a pizza lunch, take part in a noontime dance and talk with high school students, teachers, coaches and counselors. Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP.

Downtown open house party

DETAILS: Members of the Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist International of Patterson and Helping Our West Side invite people in the community to a Christmas Downtown Celebration welcoming Santa Claus to Patterson. The evening will feature lighting of Christmas trees in the South City Park at 5 p.m.; a parade bringing Santa to town at 6 p.m. and free photos with Santa and entertainment to follow.
