The comedy, directed by Joshua Morriston, features local actors in “DMV Tyrant,” “Wanda’s Visit,” “Funeral Parlor” and “The Actor’s Nightmare.”

The Rising: a tribute to Bruce Springsteen

WHEN: Show begins at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m.

DETAILS: An eight-piece tribute band from Los Angeles brings the sounds of Bruce Springsteen to the Newman stage on Aug. 17 featuring such selections as “Greetings From Asbury Park” through Springsteen’s 2012 release “Wrecking Ball.”

Biggest Loser teams to weigh-in

WHEN: Weigh in 11:30 a.m. and summit ends at 1 p.m.

WHERE: Westside Theatre, 1331 Main St., Newman

DETAILS; The West Side Health Care Advisory Task Force’s Healthy Lifestyle Contest kicks off its fifth lifestyle education campaign “Healthier Choices for Our West Side” on Thursday, Aug. 22. Teams consist of 10 members who will officially weigh in at 11:30 a.m. at the Westside Theatre in Newman. A health summit will take place at the theatre following the weigh-in with a luncheon catered by Blues Café of Patterson. The team that has lost the most weight collectively by the Oct.17 weigh-out at the Patterson Joint Unified School District office will be declared winner of the contest.
