An early morning natural gas leak had Pacific Gas and Electric workers digging Wednesday morning at the new Amazon.com fulfillment center in west Patterson.

PG&E Spokesperson Nicole Liebelt said just before 7 a.m. employees alerted PG&E of the smell of gas in the southern portion of the massive logistics center's employee parking lot. Crews were dispatched and by 8 a.m. the location of the leak was identified. The pipeline had been repaired by the end of business Wednesday and air pressure testing was being conducted as a safety precaution Thursday to ensure the line's integrity, Liebelt said. She expected gas service to be restored to the fulfillment center by the end of business Thursday.
