The 43rd Patterson Apricot Fiesta is May 31 and June 1 and 2.
Writers of any age can send in a favorite poem or a prose piece — a short story or essay or an excerpt from a longer story, a homework assignment, a letter or a journal entry.
All entries must be 500 words or shorter and must have been completed in the past year.
Illustrations are encouraged, but artists should remember that yellow does not show when printed in black and white. A 1-inch margin is required.
Each entry should be marked on the back with the entrant’s name. Students should include their teacher’s name and homeroom, and adults should include their phone number. The deadline is Friday, March 29.
Karen Willard, the chairwoman of the contest, has also announced all submissions must copy ready — that is, typed.
A panel of judges will read and score all the materials that are submitted, and when their scores are added together, the top 100 writers’ works will be collected in the prose and poetry review.
A cover art design contest has also begun. Entries must be in black and white on 8.5-by-11-inch paper with a 1-inch margin. Each entry must include the words “28th Annual Poetry & Prose” and “43rd Apricot Fiesta.” The deadline for cover art designs Friday April 26.
Past publications can be viewed at the Patterson Library, 46 N. Salado Ave.
Entries may be submitted to Shari Fraga, in care of Patterson Unified School District, 510 Keystone Blvd., or sent to the Apricot Fiesta, in care of Karen Willard, P.O. Box 442, Patterson, CA 95363.
