Soroptimist of Patterson will present Martini Mayhem on Saturday, March 8 at the Masonic Hall, 650 Sixth St. The event will be held in conjunction with the Soroptimist worldwide Saturday of Service. Soroptimists everywhere throughout the world will present projects and events to benefit their community that day.
The first Martini Mayhem will include five samples of martinis as well as a few specialty flavors, donation drawings, hors d’oeuvres, music and a cigar bar. Transportation to and from the event is available by prior arrangement by calling 892-6551.
Profits from the evening will go to women and children in the Patterson Community, including such services as benefiting friends of Soroptimist who are experiencing a difficult time in their life, and two high school teens who want to further their education.
Soroptimist President Juanzette Hunter is especially excited for this event and hopes it will harvest enough devotion for yearly support.
“Our goal is to continue this event yearly after this year,” Hunter said. “We just want the women to know that we are here for support no matter what age they are.”
The local Soroptimist Club has been working on community projects since it’s founding in January 1955.
Soroptimists have partnered with the Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce for the Christmas Downtown Open House and Christmas Trees in the Park, Patterson 4-H, Patterson High School Advancement Via Individual Determination classes, various community projects, the Patterson Township Historical Society, and the Patterson High School 100th anniversary display in the local Museum.
The Soroptimists have also held women’s health days during the spring and fall seasons since November 2003 with the Del Puerto Health Care District and have teamed up with the Patterson Lions Club to serve the breakfast during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Patterson in May.
Local Soroptimists have hosted the Little Mr. and Miss Apricot Talent Contest and the Timeless Tablesetting Luncheon with Miss Patterson candidates, both held in conjunction with the Apricot Fiesta.
Soroptimist of Patterson also provides grants to Women of Opportunity and Violet Richardson award winners to honor local women and teens for their accomplishments in education and community volunteer activities.
Soroptimist, which means “best for women,” is a worldwide service organization founded in Oakland in 1921. Violet Richardson Ward was its first president.
The local club was chartered in January 1955.
Soroptimists meet at 1 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of the month from September to June at the Patterson Branch Library, 46 N. Salado Ave.
