A former Patterson resident and football standout at Modesto’s Central Catholic High received honorable mention consideration from the Big Sky Conference on Nov. 20.

Matthew Lawrence, a 5-foot-10 defensive tackle at California State University, Sacramento, recorded 25 tackles during his senior year, including eight for losses.

Lawrence also posted three sacks and three quarterback hurries during the 2012 regular season.

The 2008 graduate of Central Catholic began getting considerable playing time for Sacramento State as a sophomore, and in 2010, he appeared in all 11 games and started eight at defensive tackle. He tallied 20 total tackles, including 10 solos, during that season.

In 2011, the 265-pound lineman accepted a full scholarship that allowed him to continue playing football at Sacramento State.
