Patterson High’s freshman boys basketball team claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship with a 76-26 home victory against the Pacheco High Panthers of Los Banos on Feb. 12.

Kosi Ogbuli scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Patterson (26-4 overall, 11-1 WAC). Teammate Hugo Gonzalez also had 15 points, while Adam Hansen added 14.

“I can only look forward to the next three years, watching these players grow as they move to the next level,” Patterson coach Rick Lazaro said.

In addition to its success on the court, Patterson enjoyed outstanding achievement in the classroom.

Throughout the season, members of the team maintained good academic standing, with three Tigers —Ogbuli, Gonzalez and Richard Ricks — earning GPAs of 4.0 or higher.

“I am very proud of our season, both on the court as well as in the classroom,” Lazaro said.
