The Tigers bested visiting Central Valley High of Ceres 143-155 on Sept. 3 in a match shortened to five holes due to darkness, and defeated host Los Banos High 238-267 on Thursday, Sept. 4.
"I feel our team played as well as could be expected in our first matches," said Patterson coach Jason Oliveira.
Against Central Valley, the Tigers’ top golfer that afternoon was senior Sarah Sanchez, who recorded a 30 through five holes on Diablo Grande's par-37 Ranch course for medalist honors. Patterson’s other golfers were senior Vicky Cruz (36), junior Simone Grice (38) and senior Sadie Schut (39).
"Sanchez was in solid form for so early in the season," Oliveira said. "She has a willingness to compete that isn't taught, it comes from within. She has been working very hard on improving and early indications are that her hard work is paying off."
Three Patterson golfers shot rounds of 60 or better, including two in the 50s, during the Tigers’ win over Los Banos High in their second league match on the par-37 Forebay Golf Course in Santa Nella.
Leading the Tigers’ charge was Sanchez, the medalist, who shot a 53, as well as her teammates Cruz (55) and Grice (60). Schut carded a 70 for Patterson (2-0).
"Both Sarah and Vicky played solid rounds, as well as Simone," Oliveira said. "I'm very proud of how far they've come in such a short time."
The team will host its next WAC match at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Diablo Grande Golf and Country Club.
