Randy’s Run, a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, is set for April 14 in honor of Randy Baysinger, a runner and society benefactor who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009 and died at the age of 56.
Baysinger ran numerous marathons, raising funds for LLS. He also served as a mentor, and eventually a team coach, in Modesto and Stockton for several years.
He served as a running and walking coach for Memorial Medical Center’s Team Challenge, which he helped form in 2009.
This year’s 13.1-mile trek starts at Villa Del Lago, 2959 Speno Drive in Patterson, before heading up Diablo Grande Parkway and Oak Flat Road.
Registration fees are $60 per participant, with proceeds benefitting the organization that funds blood cancer research and provides free information and support services for patients and their families.
Born in Stockton, Baysinger graduated from University of California, Davis, with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering before working with General Electric and then the Turlock Irrigation District. He was manager for most of TID’s major projects during his 28-year career.
A T-shirt commemorating the event and a medal for completing it are guaranteed for the first 200 individuals who sign up.
Participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the event to participate.
Check-in will begin at 6 a.m., with the race slated to start at 7 a.m.
The course will remain open for four hours.
