Police arrested a Patterson man, Saturday May 25, on suspicion of trying to break into a home on the 200 block of Scarlet Street.

Police arrested Emmanuel Dunerway, 22, in his home on the 1300 block of Cliff Swallow Street after detectives were able to identify him during an investigation, Patterson Police Sgt. John Walker said.

The homeowner confronted Dunerway in the home’s backyard shortly after being heard by nearby residents just after 12:30 p.m. May 20, Walker said. Dunerway managed to escape, however.

“The residents, who were home at the time heard some noise, and the husband came downstairs, where they came face to face,” Walker said. “Dunerway ran outside, where he was cornered and challenged the homeowner, who eventually went inside and called 911.”

Police believe two males were in the house, and one woman was outside acting as lookout when the burglary occurred. The other male and the female lookout have not been found.

Information obtained from an investigation, including surveillance footage from a neighboring home, led to the identification and location of the getaway vehicle, Walker said. From there, police were able to find Dunerway, he said.
