JV Tigers place second at Turlock tourney

The Patterson High junior varsity boys basketball team fell to Beyer High of Modesto 69-35 in the championship game of the Turlock Pepsi-Frank Godinez Tournament at Turlock High School on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Patterson (4-3) made its second straight appearance in a tournament championship contest, following the team's run in the 56th annual Joe Nava Delta King Classic at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Stockton, held Dec. 5 to 7.

Against the Beyer Patriots, Nana Appiah had 16 points, and teammate Ernesto Huizar scored six to go with his six rebounds. Michael Moore pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for Patterson.

The Tigers advanced to the championship round of the tournament with a 59-50 victory over Davis High of Modesto on Friday, Dec. 13.

Appiah again paced his team's offense with 17 points.

Also leading the charge for Patterson on Friday was Adam Hansen (four rebounds) with 13 points, and Hugo Gonzalez (four rebounds, four steals) with eight. Huizar (four steals) had seven points, while Moore (four rebounds, three steals) tossed in six for the Tigers.

Appiah had 19 points and four steals to lift Patterson over the Downey Knights, 52-45, as the tournament opened Thursday, Dec. 12.

Patterson's other leading scorers for the night were Hansen (five steals), who tallied 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Moore, who added seven points and seven rebounds.
