JV boys finish runner-up at Delta King Classic

The Patterson High junior varsity boys basketball team recently took home second place from the 56th annual Joe Nava Delta King Classic at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Stockton.

The Tigers fell to Sonora High 44-32 in the championship game Saturday, Dec. 7.

Kosi Ogbuli (four rebounds) led all Patterson scorers in the tournament finale, finishing with 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting in defeat.

Adam Hansen scored seven points to go with three rebounds in Saturday's loss.

The Tigers reached the championship game by posting victories over Chavez High of Stockton on Thursday, Dec. 5 and West High of Tracy on Friday, Dec. 6.

Patterson overcame a two-point first-half deficit to pull away for a narrow 45-43 win over Chavez in the tournament's opener on Thursday.

Nana Appiah had 14 points and five rebounds for Patterson, while Ogbuli had 10 points and six boards. Appiah was also named to the all-tournament team.

Ernesto Huizar added nine points and two steals for the Tigers.

The team stamped its ticket to the title tilt with a 32-28 win against West on Friday, rallying behind Appiah's 17 points and nine rebounds.

Huizar added five points and five steals in the win over the Tracy-based school. Hansen and Hugo Gonzalez each added three points and three rebounds for Patterson.

The season continues Thursday, Dec. 12, as Patterson travels for the Turlock High School Invitational.

Junior varsity
Atwater 56, Patterson 46

The JV Tigers (2-2) started off the season with a loss to host Atwater High on Dec. 3.

Appiah was the top scorer for Patterson with 14 points, while Hansen added nine points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Other leading contributors to Patterson's effort were Gonzalez with six points and five rebounds, as well as, Huizar and Ogbuli with five points and five boards apiece.

Patterson 42, Atwater 38

The freshman Tigers surged ahead in overtime for a season-opening victory against Atwater on Dec. 3.

Pierre Williams scored a game-high 16 points for Patterson. Teammate Ivan Ornelas followed with eight, and Angel Rojas scored seven.
