A service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 for Joland Colleen Schut, who died Wednesday, Nov. 21. Mrs. Schut was the was the granddaughter of Patterson Pioneers, Elmer and Vada
Fink and passed away at home in Patterson.
Mrs. Schut was born on Sept. 18, 1937, in Modesto to parents Wayland and Josephine Fink. She graduated from Patterson High School in 1955 and then from College of the Pacific with a degree in Education in 1959. Mrs. Schut taught elementary school in Modesto and Patterson prior to starting a family in 1966. She became a proud mother and full time homemaker for many years. Once her boys were raised, she attended St. Mary’s College, receiving her Master of Education, Administrative Services Degree. After receiving her Master’s Degree, Mrs. Schut was employed by the Patterson Joint Unified School District, retiring as the Assistant Principal of Patterson Junior High School.
Mrs. Schut enjoyed her family first and foremost. It was also important to her to have a positive impact on her local community of Patterson. She was involved with the Patterson Historical Society, Charter member of the PRIDE Scholarship Board, and Trustee of the Federated Church. She was also a member of Eastern Star. Ms. Schut had many interests, including but not limited to travel, reading, exercising, music, and attending plays. She was also known to be a gourmet chef.
Mrs. Schut is survived by her husband of 52 years, Elwood Schut of Patterson and sons, Evan Schut and his wife, Katheryn, and Collin Schut, and his wife, Lisa, and grandchildren, Sadie, Ethan, Ewan, Cody and Ryan. She is also survived by her brother, Warren Fink and wife, Karen, of Ramona, California, and sister Michele Knapp of Avila Beach, California and their children.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Federated Church, 45 S. El Circulo, in Patterson. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mrs. Schut’s name may be sent to the PRIDE Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1543, Patterson, Ca 95363, or the Patterson Historical Society, P.O. Box 15, Patterson, CA 95363.
From the kitchen to the Board Room, Joland made a difference to her family,
her community, her students and her friends. Joland was a person of intellect, she was a person of integrity, and she was a person of humor. She was a woman of humility.
She never stopped striving to do more.
