Sam Schneider, David Luna and Abigail Ramirez — all seniors in Christine Pugliese’s first-period art class — were recognized during a March 22 artist’s reception
“The competition was stiff, and there was a lot of really good work in the show,” Pugliese said this week, adding that the winning artwork is displayed in the Patterson High library.
Schneider won in the advanced painting category for his self-portrait in acrylics in the style of Van Gogh. Luna earned kudos in the multimedia category with a block print he collaged, titled “Are the kids ready?” Ramirez’s self-portrait in charcoal was chosen by Les Larson for the Modesto Schools Retired Art Teachers’ Choice Award.
The local winners competed against student artists from high schools all over Stanislaus County.
