Kendrick Taylor, a Walnut Grove eighth-grader, has been studying hard in hopes of placing high in the state junior high spelling bee in San Rafael on Saturday, May 12.

Among the books he is studying is Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged.

Kendrick earned the most points in the Stanislaus County Spelling Bee in Modesto in November, winning the right to represent the county and compete for the state title.

His classmate Danyelle DeForest and fellow speller Bethany Harper, an eighth-grader from Ustach Middle School in Modesto, earned the alternate positions at the November competition.
