The Rio Del Oro District of the Greater Yosemite Council has honored a longtime Patterson Boy Scout leader, Becky Long, for her service to youth.

Long was among five recipients of the Award of Merit, the highest honor given to scout volunteers at the district level.

In her 14th year in the scouting program, Long has been active in Cub Scout Pack 81 and Boy Scout troops 533 and 81.

One son, Matthew, is an Eagle Scout, and son Tim holds the Star rank.

Long served as Tiger Cub coach for two years, was a den leader for six years and was a Webelos leader for three years. She was a member of the pack committee for seven years, serving as chairwoman for four, and was chairwoman of the West Side day camp.

She has also handled registration and awards for the pack and has served as its treasurer. Long has completed a variety of training programs.

The award was presented Saturday evening in Merced at the district’s annual volunteer recognition night.
