Mary Jane Ford

Nov. 12, 1942 — Dec.12, 2013

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 21 for Mary Jane Ford, born on Nov. 12, 1942 in Newman and entered into rest surrounded by her husband and loving family.

Mrs. Ford, 71, loved taking care of her family and friends, and thoroughly enjoyed preparing meals and treats for both family and the community. Every Sunday, her home was a festive gathering for family, friends and fabulous food.

She could often be found sewing the night hours away on her mother’s treadle sewing machine. Her creations and quilts found appreciative owners far and wide.

Mrs. Ford took special pleasure in planting and keeping her yard looking picture perfect. She was also an avid fan of local Portuguese festas, especially the bullfights, and was a member of the Our Lady of Miracles Society and P.F.S.A.

Mrs. Ford had a passion for her career as a hair dresser at the Crows Landing landmark, Mary Jane’s Salon of Beauty, for over 52 years. She loved her clients dearly, as if everyone was family. She had a unique way of making everyone she met feel remarkably special and loved. It seemed she never met a stranger. Her selfless generosity and unparalleled style will be dearly missed by all.

Mrs. Ford is preceded in death by her parents, Joe M. and Lucy Rocha, her brother, Elerd Rocha and her niece, Bailey Rocha. She leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years, Ed, and her siblings, Joe Rocha, Ed Rocha, Marlene Souza, and Melvin Souza, all of Newman. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

A visitation will be observed on Friday, Dec.20 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. at The Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21. Following the funeral will be a gathering at the F.D.E.S. Hall in Newman.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Ford’s name may be sent to Our Lady of Miracles Educational Center, 370 Linden Ave., Gustine, CA 95360, Newman Fire Department, 1162 N Street, Newman, CA 95360, and Bailey’s Treasure Box, P.O. Box 14, Newman, CA 95360.

Services conducted by Hillview Funeral Chapel, 1258 R St., Newman.
