The event, hosted by the Elijah B. Hayes American Legion Post No. 168, will allow members of the community to personally speak with candidates that will have a hand in affecting local communities and government standings.
“Our local post wants to offer Patterson residents an additional means of familiarization with the candidates through a nonpartisan question and answer session,” said Amy Hussar, Commander of the American Legion Post No. 168. “The post itself cannot advocate for or oppose any candidate, but candidates from all parties have been invited as required by our bylaws. To quote our national organization’s Get Out the Vote guide, ‘Americans have the right to vote for whom they choose to represent them in our representative form of government. They also have the duty, a responsibility, to use their right to vote and to familiarize themselves with the candidates and the issues up for decision on Election Day.’”
Candidates will get a chance to introduce themselves, followed by a publicly scheduled Q & A. All questions must be written down and submitted to the moderator before the event’s proceedings. Members of the public may email questions to email@example.com with the subject line “Meet the Candidates” or mail them to P.O. Box 455, Patterson.
The list of candidates that have currently accepted the invitation and will be appearing at the meeting include Shawn Bagley, Senate District 12; Anthony Cannella, Senate District 12; Frank Carson, District Attorney; Birgit Fladager (District Attorney); Adam Christianson, Stanislaus County Sheriff; Tom Letras, Sheriff; and Micheal Eggman, U.S. House District 10.
