Members of the Patterson Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved Posey as assistant superintendent of human resources and child welfare and attendance at their Nov. 5 meeting.
Posey, 43, replaces Phil Alfano, who held the position until May, when he was named as the district’s superintendent of schools. The district will advertise the principal position and take applications before interviewing candidates in December.
Alfano said Posey is a good fit for the job.
“We’re very excited to have Shawn assume his new position,” Alfano said. “He brings a wealth of experience to both human resources and child welfare and attendance.”
Posey became principal of Creekside Middle School in July 2006 after serving as vice principal of curriculum at Patterson High for two years.
He said this week he has great memories as he finishes out his term as principal.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to work at Creekside for the past seven years,” Posey said. “I look forward to serving the district in this new role. We have a great administrative team, and I am honored to be a part of it.”
School board member Amy Hussar said Posey’s experience laid the foundation for his future post.
“Shawn is a good choice, because he knows a lot of the kids,” Hussar said. “He knows the district, and he’s not afraid to think outside the box.”
Posey started his career in 1998 in Patterson, teaching history and Advanced Placement government at Patterson High School for six years. He became the high school’s activities director and tennis coach for four years and was named vice principal at Patterson High in August 2004, coming out on top among 12 candidates.
The Oakdale native graduated from Grace Davis High School in Modesto in 1987. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social studies in 1996 from California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock and a teaching credential in 1997 from Chapman University in Modesto. He earned his master’s degree in education in 2008 from CSU Stanislaus.
Posey is the father of two sons, Tyler, 11, and Connor, 9.
