The students were recognized with certificates presented by Patterson Mayor Luis Molina, who is also president of the Stanislaus County Board of Education, and Veronica Miranda, assistant superintendent of educational services for Patterson Unified.
To earn the seal, each student prepared a “linguafolio” which consisted of five essays in English, was interviewed in English and a second language, and completed an impromptu writing exercise in the same second language — in this case, Spanish. A team of teachers graded the essays.
The seal will appear on the diploma of each qualifying student.
This is the third year Patterson High has participated honoring about 40 local students over that course of time. Teachers Mary Solorio-Brandt and Teresa Murillo helped the students with the process.
