"It is an honor to receive this award," Nuia said. "This is such a big plaque to receive, and an award that I will remember."
After finishing their ninth consecutive winning campaign while reaching the playoffs for a ninth straight season, Patterson's football team celebrated its 2013 run at their annual awards ceremony Dec. 4 in the school cafeteria.
The Tigers (9-2) placed eight players on the all-Western Athletic Conference first team, including defensive lineman Nuia, who was also recognized as a team captain.
"My four-year career at Patterson High was a journey," Nuia said. "(The school) was basically my home for the past four years, and I tried my best academically and on the field to contribute to this amazing program."
Patterson coach Nick Marchy also recognized Nuia, who helped make another season of Tigers football a success.
"Jesse plays with a tough-nosed demeanor, and plays with honor and class," Marchy said. "He is also a great student-athlete, who plays at an high intensity and has a never-give-up attitude."
After he graduates from Patterson, Nuai hopes for an opportunity to continue playing football at De Anza College in Cupertino.
"I want to finish what I started on the gridiron and represent Patterson. I will make sure to put Patterson on the map," Nuia said. "I will take everything I have learned from this great coaching staff and display it on the table. I will try to the best of my ability to make it."
