During the month of October, potential pet owners could see adoption savings for adopting a dog from the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency. Those that adopt a dog in the first week of October will be able to for $45 and $90 for the rest of the month following the first week.
“This is the first time they’re hosting an adopt-a-dog month,” said Councilman Dominic Farinha, an animal advocate who serves on an advisory board for the agency.
“Dogs are beneficial in people’s lives,” he said. “Generally speaking, they need us as much as we need them, and (dog ownership) is helpful and therapeutic.”
The American Humane Association has promoted a similar event for several years.
All adopted dogs will be micro-chipped, have current shots, be spayed or neutered, come with a voucher for a visit to a veterinarian and a complimentary bag of dog food.
