The Patterson High girls tennis team took a 7-2 defeat to host Central Catholic High of Modesto on Sept. 24.

The Central Catholic Raiders swept singles play and won two of their three doubles matches in the triumph over the Patterson High Tigers (3-2 Western Athletic Conference).

"At the end of the day, I think the more experienced team won," said Patterson coach Raustand Nzoule. "We just need to practice harder if we want to keep our third-place standing in the league."

Still, there were a few bright highlights in the Tigers’ loss against Central Catholic.

Arianna Rico and Ngoc Nguyen did well against their opponents at No. 2 doubles spot, winning 6-4, 6-1 against Central Catholic's Sarah Alviso and Bianca Jauregu.

Patterson's other win was in the No. 3 doubles spot, where Cartarina Borges and Wendy Zuleta defeated Alyssa McPhee and Lauren Aja in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

The Tigers will continue their season at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, when they host Livingston High.
