The Tigers (1-4 WAC) fell 10-5 to visiting Ceres High on March 27 and then stumbled against Central Catholic High of Modesto, losing 3-0 on the road Thursday, March 28.
But coach Jennifer Hamm remained optimistic despite the defeats, saying that the team “is not going to go down lightly” and that every game is meaningful.
“Right now, we are getting to the halfway point of the season,” Hamm said. “It’s anyone’s game in the second half, because no one in this league is going to give anything away. I wouldn’t count Patterson out yet.”
Against Central Catholic (4-0), Patterson senior Francheska Olvera went 2-for-3 at the plate.
“Offensively, we’re doing a better job of limiting our strikeouts,” Hamm said. “Now, we have to work to put our hits together rather then scatter them, and we have to limit some base-running mistakes.”
Against Ceres (3-2), Olvera, classmate Brooke Schaa and sophomore Kianna Garza each had two hits for the Tigers.
Sophomore Lucero Vargas added a triple and two RBIs for Patterson.
“This was a hard week for us. But we knew these teams were really going to challenge us,” Hamm said. “Playing two of the top teams in our league, we had to come out with our ‘A’ game. We’re still in contention for the postseason.”
Following spring break, Patterson High continues the league season with a home game against Pacheco High of Los Banos (0-4) at 4 p.m. April 12.
