A 20-year-old Patterson man died early Wednesday morning, March 6, following what Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies believe was a late-night gang-related shooting in south Modesto.

Eddie Hernandez of Patterson was dropped off at Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto shortly after midnight early Wednesday, March 5 with a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital, according to a release from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting occurred between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy Raj Singh said Wednesday.

Deputies think the shooting took place on the 1700 block of Denver Street in unincorporated south Modesto. Detectives conducted interviews in the area throughout the night, according to the news release.

Investigators say at least one of the people who dropped off Hernandez at the hospital is a documented gang member who has been uncooperative during interviews with police.

The sheriff's department is not releasing what part of Hernandez's body was shot or how many times he was shot, as the incident remains under investigation, Singh said.

Hernandez had a few brushes with the law in the past. He previously spent time in jail for weapons possession and assault with a deadly weapon charges in September 2011 for a shooting on the 400 block of South Third Street in Patterson. He was caught by police on Sept. 23, 2011 after he was treated at Doctor's Medical Center for a gunshot wound in the upper groin on the same block of 400 South Third Street. He later pleaded no contest only to assault.
