Patterson teams fall to Pacheco

Running up against tough competition from Western Athletic Conference rival Pacheco High of Los Banos, the Patterson High track and field teams stepped up to post impressive individual performances and a number of top-three finishes at Patterson Community Stadium on April 24.

But the Tiger boys (2-4 WAC) still lost 87-49, with the girls team (1-5) also losing 92-33.

The Tigers continue the season at home at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the WAC championship meet at Patterson Community Stadium.

Varsity boys

Patterson’s Lourienzo Mixon came away with a win in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.49 seconds.

Teammate Hunter Powers placed first in the shot put (41 feet, 10 inches) and the discus (117-5). He also gave Patterson a second-place finish in the 200 meters.

Tiger Austin Luckert was first in the high jump (4-10), and teammate Daniel Arcienega finished second (4-6).

James Miller finished second in the 800, clocking in at 2:16. He was third in the 400 (58.80).

Patterson’s Ivan Barbontin (17.39) took the third spot in the 110 hurdles.

Nathan Stanton (10:02) finished second in the 3,200. Teammate Chase Guenther added a second-place finish in the pole vault (10-6).

Nick Russell racked up a second-place finish in the shot put (37-7) and discus (110 feet).

Winning the 4x100 relay was the team of Mixon, Powers, Barbontin and Guenther (44.12).

Varsity girls

Tianna Barron earned a first-place finish in the long jump (14-11), as did Jaliyah Anderson in the high jump (4-4) and Megan McWilliams in the pole vault (9-6).

Barron also recorded second-place finishes in the 100- (13.27) and 200-meters (28.52).

Ana Martin took second in the 1,600 and 3,200 (16:07).

Aryanna Cashen claimed second in the triple jump (28 feet), and was third in the long jump (14 feet).

Nicole Chavez had a second-place toss in the discus (73-10 1/2).

Anderson also earned a third-place finish in the triple jump (26-4).

Junior varsity

The Patterson High JV track and field teams were both victorious in their WAC dual meets against Pacheco on April 24 at Patterson Community Stadium.

The JV girls (2-4) picked up a 37-0 win over the visiting Panthers, while the boys team (3-3) bested Pacheco 70-52.

Three different Patterson girls earned first-place finishes.

Huma Aziz won the 100 hurdles (18.83) and 300 hurdles (1:03); Ruth Haro took the 100 (14.34) and 200 (31.21); and Vhajan Phul earned a win in the 3,200 (18:08).

For the boys, Cameron Tracy (110 and 300 hurdles), Josh Quevedo (1,600 and 3,200) and Sean Hicks (400 and 800) were all double winners.

Tracy, Hicks, Noah Khan and Kahlan Spears breezed to a first-place win in the boys 4x400 relay (4:12).

Other Tigers wins came from Dalton Schaa in the pole vault (9-6) and Kosi Ogbuli in the triple jump (34-1 1/2).
