This year’s Apricot Fiesta, buoyed by a large crowd, ran well into the black, Fiesta President Mike Azevedo reports. The Lions Club served 3,350 plates of chicken in the park.

50 years ago - June 18, 1964

A dozen members of Ted Jackson’s U.S. History class have completed writing the 50-year history of Patterson High School. The writing group is composed of Joyce Yamamoto, Marilyn Austin, Rani Goutiere, Jean Anderson, Linda Jackson, Marsha Truman, Mark Pepple, Troy Hale, Mike Slone, Edmundo Chavez, Rick Anderson and John Cox. Their historical reports includes a list of the items placed in the cornerstone of the school’s first building in 1915.

The Rev. Charles Silberstein has succeeded Albert Foster as pastor of the Federated Church.

A request from the Harney School District across the line in Santa Clara County to discuss annexing to the Patterson Unified School District has been received here.

Ernie Rose’s Lil’ Bee had engine problems and did not complete the race Sunday at the Modesto Reservoir, but Patterson still had the winner. That was Wayland Fink’s boat which won both heats.

75 years ago - June 16, 1937

A contract for $7,000 has been awarded to a San Francisco firm for interior work in the new high school auditorium.

A German glider attempting to make a flight from San Francisco to Los Angeles made an emergency landing last Friday at the Henry Schmidt place near Westley. It was piloted by the assistant to the German air attaché in Washington and had the Nazi swastika on its wing.

High school football rules will be modified this fall. Forward passes will be allowed from anywhere back of the line of scrimmage, and forward handoffs also will be allowed behind the line. Fourth quarter substitutes will be allowed re-entry without penalty.

The president and secretary of the Patterson Ranch Co., W.W. Patterson and Dudley Kinsell, along with the company’s former engineer, H.L. Ward, visited here Monday. Ward put in the levee system here and surveyed the town.

Elmer Fink is the new manager of Patterson’s baseball team. Subscriptions are sought to purchase new uniforms.

Manual training and domestic science departments have been added at both the high school and grammar school level.
