The Patterson Ravens junior varsity youth football team will embark on one final road trip Saturday, Nov. 5 — to the Mariposa Fairgrounds, site of the Trans-Valley Youth Football League’s Super Bowl.

Patterson punched its ticket to the big game by stomping the host Manteca Junior Buffaloes, 37-0, on Oct. 29.

“Having played Manteca the week before really helped us,” Patterson coach Read Weinzheimer said. “We put in a whole new offense from the prior week, and they could do little to slow us down.”

Nehmiah Shelton returned an interception 46 yards to open the scoring, putting Patterson up 7-0.

Quarterback Kevin Todd and Shelton later connected for a 30-yard catch-and-run score, and teammate Toby Silva twice crossed the goal line, on runs of 15 and 2 yards.

“This was our most complete game of the season,” Weinzheimer said.

Todd led the Ravens on another scoring drive that finished with Jaime Jimenez’s 34-yard touchdown grab.

Backup quarterback Samuel Garcia capped Patterson’s scoring with a 40-yard TD run.

The team will face the Ripon Knights in the Super Bowl.

“Looking back at the start of the season, we look like two different teams,” Weinzheimer said. “We’re confident, we’re excited and we’re peaking at the right time.”

Novice

The novice Ravens posted a 19-7 victory over Manteca this past weekend and will also advance to the league’s Super Bowl.

“This team knows that we’re in a position to win this whole thing,” Patterson coach John Guevarra said. “The kids deserve this opportunity for all of their hard work.”

On fourth-and-2, Kaden Williams ran a fake punt 50 yards for a Raven touchdown, cleared by a pair of crushing blocks from teammates.

Williams then ran 75 yards on a double reverse for Patterson’s next score.

The Raven offense went back to work in the second half, and Elijah Lawson carried the ball in from 50 yards out to make it a 12-point advantage.

The Patterson defense, meanwhile, allowed Manteca just two first downs with constant pressure and ball hawking, Guevarra said.

“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to advance to the Super Bowl,” Guevarra said. “I saw it in the players’ eyes — they were mentally and physically ready to make it happen.”

Patterson will play against the Tracy Panthers in the Super Bowl.
