With a 14-0 road victory over the Oakland Junior Raiders on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Palm City Reapers varsity youth football team improved to 3-0, and are alone in first place at the top of the Bay Valley Gridiron League standings.

On offense, Palm City optioned Andres Awai to run the football to control the game clock and keep the defense's legs under them.

"(Awai) ground the ball through the Raiders' defense," said Reapers' president James Bond. "Because of that, we were able to eat up time on the clock."

Remoni Tufono Jr. led the visitors on defense.

"The defense played an awesome game," Bond said. "(Tufono Jr.) led the way, putting constant pressure on the Raiders' offense."

Jerome Lawrence scored a touchdown, Jaylan Lomack added a 2-point safety and the JV Reapers notched their first victory of the year with a 10-6 win over the host Oakland Junior Raiders on Saturday, Sept. 28.

"It was a great battle for the team's first win," Bond said. "The squad played hard to secure the win, and they get better every week."

Paced by Romeo Portillo and Diego Ramirez, the defense did enough to preserve the win for Palm City (1-2).

"Both Portillo and Ramirez were great on both sides of the ball," Bond said.

Results for other Reapers teams were not submitted by press time.
