The ceremony opened up with an announcement from Mayor Luis Molina, who stayed to garner as many volunteers as possible.
On hand was an organization known as Kohl’s Cares, which was at the forefront of the volunteer efforts. Turlock native Jose Gonzalez, who has been an 8-year associate with Kohl’s distribution center in Patterson, brought many family members to help volunteer in Patterson.
Patterson resident and girl scout leader of troop 2253, Roxann Le’i was also present with several of her girls and co-leader Ermelinda Flores-Bearrup.
“I think if everyone takes a part in making Patterson look beautiful, it won’t take too much effort,” said Le’i. “Earth Day is just another way to slowly help Patterson.”
Free soil, arts and crafts, and an e-waste drive coerced visitors into joining the effort, and helped secure added funds for the Patterson Recreation Department.
