A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 28 for Rosemarie Azevedo Starcher of Patterson, who died on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto after a long illness with scleroderma.

Mrs. Starcher, 84, was a native of Patterson who was born to Joe V. and Maria Azevedo, early settlers of Patterson who arrived here in 1914. She graduated from Patterson Union High School in 1947.

Mrs. Starcher worked many years for the local Ford dealership under the ownership of C.C. “Corky” Bessey. In 1962, she married Donald F. Starcher of Livermore. While in Livermore, she was employed with the Atomic Energy Commission (now the Department of Energy, San Francisco), operations office. She retired after 22 years of service. For a time, Mrs. Starcher was employed with the Albuquerque Operations Office, Department of Energy, Albuquerque, NM. She belonged to the Tracy Golf Course and golfed with the Happy Hackers. Occasionally, she served as a docent for the Patterson Historical Society. Mrs. Starcher loved to travel the U.S., golf, garden, read Christian books and was an amateur organist and piano player.

Mrs. Starcher is survived by her husband, Donald F. Starcher of Patterson; brothers, John Azevedo of Patterson and Tony Azevedo of Temecula, along with many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Her parents, three brothers and five sisters preceded Mrs. Starcher in death. The family is grateful to her caregivers, Charlotte and Mike, for their loving care.

The Saturday, Sept 28 funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 650 W. Las Palmas Ave., Patterson. Burial will be private at Patterson District Cemetery.

Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., Patterson, is handling the arrangements.
