GRAYSON—Investigators of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s department received a call at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31 reporting there was a possible dead body on the side of Laird Road in Grayson. The victim, Ernie Aguayo, 32, of Modesto, was found dead in the rural area east of Grayson.

According to a release by the Sheriff’s department, the witness was driving south on Laird Road from Grayson Road when he saw an object on the side of the road that he believed to be a dead animal. Due to the rural setting near an orchard’s field, the witness was unable to deduce the object at first. Once he was closer to the body, he called 911 immediately.

Deputies responded and found Aguayo on the west side of the roadway with a gunshot wound. The release did not state where Aguayo was shot.

Stanislaus Sheriff’s Homicide Unit were called to the scene and took over the investigation.

There are no suspects in custody at this time.

Further information will not be released as the case is currently under active investigation.
