Three area storms, starting Thursday, Nov. 29, and lasting through Sunday, Dec. 2, whipped winds up to 35 mph at times and dropped nearly two inches of rain on Patterson.
The National Weather Service’s weather station at Ward Avenue and Marshall Road south of Patterson indicated that the area had received 1.62 inches of rainfall from Nov. 28 to Tuesday, Dec. 4. Records kept at Yancey Lumber on First and E streets showed 1.39 inches of rainfall from Friday to Sunday.
Turlock Irrigation District spokesman Herb Smart said Patterson was spared the rain and wind damage reported in some nearby communities.
“There were some small (power) outages in Turlock, but none in Patterson,” Smart said. “Water operators were just fine, too. There were no releases from dams. Everything went as expected, thank goodness.”
Stanislaus County Road Superintendent Gary Hayward said Tuesday, Dec. 4, that some rocks blocked part of Del Puerto Canyon Road about 20 miles into the hills of the Diablo range, and a tree partially blocked the roadway in the same area.
“Otherwise, the storm wasn’t that bad, and we survived rather well,” he said.
A narrow band of storms delivered a half-hour of heavy rains and wind Sunday, but the most powerful storms were farther north in San Joaquin and Sacramento counties, according to Drew Peterson, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
Modesto Airport near the corner of Tenaya Drive and Mitchell Road reported 2.23 inches of rainfall from Nov. 28 to Sunday.
