Mechanic offers car care tips

Have a little free time Saturday morning?

You might want to stop by Patterson’s Five Star Automotive for a no-cost car care clinic from 10 a.m. to noon.

Community members are invited to the clinic at 551 N. First St., Ste. E, where they can learn about fuel efficiency, emergency roadside preparation and ways to protect a vehicle through proper maintenance.

“We are really keen to build some community base around the idea of taking simple steps to keep your car out of the shop,” said Jill Avila, community relations and social media manager of Five Star Automotive. “We truly believe that the things we’re talking about will save our customers money and will make it so that they can pass smog checks more easily and visit the gas pump less.”

Listeners will also get answers to their questions from Jamie Furtado, who owns the shop.

Refreshments will be served, and those who attend will have a chance to win prizes. Participants can spin a prize wheel once for each friend or family member who accompanies them.

Simple sack lunches

Cheryl Lane’s Cakery has a new addition this week. Cheryl is selling simple sack lunches from the storefront at 11 Plaza Circle, Suite D.

The sack lunch includes a choice of tuna salad or chicken salad sandwich on white or wheat bread, chips, fountain drink and dessert — a cupcake, brownie or a cookie.

Hungry diners can call ahead and lunch will be ready when one arrives to pick it up. Cheryl continues to make decorated cakes, cupcakes, cookies and brownies for special occasions, too.

Cheryl Lane’s Cakery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 11 Plaza Circle, Suite D. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday. For information: 996-1959.

Local businesses that are new to town or have news to share can call Maddy Houk at 892-6187.
