Two local organizations frequented by Patterson residents made the move to South Third Street this month. The St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store has set up its wares in a new location on South Third and El Circulo. Meanwhile, down the street, the Patterson Apricot Fiesta office is in new digs.

St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store started out in 1991 on Highway 33 near Bennett Hardware (which has since closed), and made its move a few years later to 319 First St. The store then relocated to 205 S. El Ciruclo in the winter of 2009, and has recently transferred across the street at 58 S. Third St. on Monday, Sept. 16.

Monica Martin, store manager, and Betty Scheuber, assistant manager, run the store with more than 50 volunteers.

The proceeds from the clothing sales, household goods, furniture and miscellaneous items goes back to the community through scholarships and other civic needs.

“This goes full circle because the volunteers wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the community donating to us,” Martin said.

Ann Dykzuel has volunteered at the store for the past 20 years.

“I always talk about the thrift store and tell people that don’t have anything to do to drop by, and we’ll put them to work,” Dykzuel said.

Another volunteer, Joyce Amaral, has been helping out for 18 years.

“As soon as I retired, Minnie Garcia (local volunteer) asked me, ‘Do you want to work at the thrift shop?’” Amaral said.

The store is located at 58 S. Third St., and shopping hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donation hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shop is closed on Sundays.

Donors should use the back door for furniture donations and the side door for all other donations. Their phone number is 892-7201.

Fiesta office has new space

The Patterson Apricot Fiesta office is in a new location at 26 S. Third St. The office relocated at the beginning of the month, making the move from 28 Ossie St.

Since the next Fiesta is more than eight months away, Fiesta Secretary Marilyn Hoobler does not have set hours this time of year. For those new to the area, the Patterson Apricot Fiesta celebrates the tasty fruit with competitions, contests, parade, fireworks and lots of food and entertainment for those in attendance the weekend after Memorial Day each year.

Those who have any Fiesta business to conduct can call Hoobler at 892-3118 for an appointment.

Local businesses that are new to town or have news to share may call Maddy Houk at 892-6187.
