Five Patterson High School students came home with awards from two art shows that took place this spring.

Jana Antalova, an exchange student from Slovakia who is a junior at Patterson High, was awarded Best of Show for a charcoal self-portrait she displayed at the Youth Month Art Show at Modesto Junior College. The show ran from March 15 to 21.

Gloria Guerrero, a Patterson High senior, won first place in the 3-D division for her aluminum giraffe in the same show. Brian Samarippa, also a senior, placed third in photography for a photo of San Francisco. Fellow senior Noel Villeda received an honorable mention for his ceramic Day of the Dead mask.

Antalova also received first place for a black-and-white figurative drawing at the Turlock Regional High School Art Show from March 27 to April 12 at California State University in Turlock.

Another Patterson High junior, Rebecca Estrada, was awarded an honorable mention for her watercolor painting of a koi pond.
