The Tigers opened with a 3-0 triumph on the road against the Turlock Bulldogs on Sept. 4 and finished the week by besting the Warriors 2-1 in Newman on Thursday, Sept. 5.
Patterson is riding a 6-match winning streak that began Aug. 30 with a 1-0 win against Buhach Colony High of Atwater at the Pitman Pride Invitational in Turlock. The Tigers have outscored their opponents 16-1 during the run.
The start was little more than business as usual for the Tigers (6-0 overall), according to Patterson coach Greg Hartsell.
"I don't recall the team ever having gone through a preseason this good. Our defense has been really solid the whole time," Hartsell said. "It's all preparation for the very tough (Western Athletic Conference) schedule that's ahead for us."
Patterson had two different players score in Turlock to secure the victory.
Junior Andres Herrera netted a pair of goals and sophomore Jordy Corral scored one against the Bulldogs (3-2-2). Junior Jose Morales made two assists, while goalkeepers Jose Rodriguez and Carlos Moreno combined for four saves for Patterson.
"We played well right from the opening whistle," Hartsell said. "We capitalized on our speed and we moved the ball around the field."
Herrera scored both goals in a win over Orestimba (2-2), giving him 10 for the season. Senior Israel Sotelo contributed an assist for the Tigers.
With a tough slate of WAC matches ahead, Hartsell hopes his team can finish the preseason strong.
"Everyone on the team is still fighting for positions and playing time," Hartsell said. "I'm expecting a really tough final two games of the preseason. We'll focus on taking each game, each opponent seriously."
The Tigers will continue their season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, when they host Downey High of Modesto.
Still riding the momentum of a second-place finish at the Pitman Pride Invitational on Aug. 30 and 31, Patterson High JV boys soccer coach Cade Tomasegovich was motivated to keep his team thinking like winners.
To do so, he urged the Tigers to approach their next two games as if they were the start of a fresh season.
They responded by defeating Turlock High 2-1 on Sept. 4, and Orestimba High 9-1 on Thursday, Sept. 5 — improving their overall record to 4-1-1.
"My entire lineup is solid," said Tomasegovich. "For the next couple of years, this Patterson program is going to be strong."
Cristian Lomeli and Osbaldo Hernandez each found the back of the net against Turlock, while Patterson’s Anthony Garcia-Bradley tallied the lone assist against the Bulldogs.
Four Patterson players scored as the Tigers continued the week with a rout of Orestimba on Thursday.
Hernandez had four goals to lead the Patterson attack, while Garcia-Bradley added three scores.
Teammates Roberto Rodriguez and Derek Amaral each added a goal for Patterson.
"When we go hard, and first to the ball, good things happen," Tomasegovich said.
