Accuracy on the service line was average for the Tigers, but nagging problems with inconsistency proved to be their downfall Aug. 29, when the team lost to Amador in three games at home, 25-16, 25-7, 25-12.
“The best we can do as a young team is to continue to raise the bar of playing by practicing and conditioning hard throughout the season,” said Patterson coach Tarah High. “In spite of our preseason losses, the girls are staying optimistic about our (upcoming league campaign) and will be working harder to prepare for future games.”
Senior Karina Villafana was a bright spot for the team against Amador, collecting 12 digs.
“Karina has really found her niche in the back row as libero,” High said.
Still, Patterson continued its slide in a home match against Stone Ridge Christian on Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Knights also overpowered the Tigers in three games, 25-12, 26-16, 25-22.
“Volleyball is not a sport that revolves around natural talent, but rather it comes from dedicated hard work and steady play,” High said. “There are skills that have to be developed over a long period of time, and without that experience, it is going to take more time to get our girls to progress at the speed required for competition.”
Junior varsity
The JV Tigers fell to visiting Amador, 25-19, 23-25, 15-6, but got on track at home against Stone Ridge Christian, picking up a 25-20, 25-18 victory.
Freshmen
The freshman Tigers prevailed over Amador, 25-18, 25-18.
