The Patterson High boys tennis team missed an opportunity to move into a tie atop the final Western Athletic Conference standings on Thursday, April 18, after being shut out on the road by the league-leading Ceres High Bulldogs, 9-0.

Heading into the match — the last of the regular season — the Tigers (10-2 WAC) kept themselves in contention by topping Pacheco High 6-3 on April 17 in Los Banos.

But Patterson needed a win at Ceres to lay claim to a share in the conference crown.

Instead, Ceres won all six singles matches and three doubles matches, finishing in first place with a perfect 12-0 league record.

Patterson concludes the league campaign in second place. The school’s latest tennis championship was in 2005.

The Tigers will compete in the WAC doubles championship beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Pacheco High School.

At No. 1 singles, Sterling Ramirez gave the Tigers a 6-0, 6-0 win against Juan Chavez.
